Western Canada Marine Response Corp.

Services: Brand Communications, Reputation Management & Emergency Response

Brand communications, reputation management and emergency response for Canada’s oldest certified marine response organization.

Ink’s Role

Established in 1976, Western Canada Marine Response Corp. (WCMRC) is the oldest and only Transport Canada-certified marine response organization on Canada’s West Coast. On average, they respond to 20 spills in coastal waters each year. Since 2015, Lianne has been providing both brand communications and emergency response communications support to WCMRC.

Ink’s Work

Lianne supports WCMRC with media relations, strategic communications planning, public consultation, reputation management, brand positioning, brand strategy, strategic writing and editing on an ongoing basis. She has been involved in redeveloping the organization’s visual and written identity, the development of communications policies, and outreach initiatives with key stakeholders, among other projects.

In addition, she regularly participates in marine spill response training exercises with WCMRC, and has overseen and supported communications during marine spill response operations on Canada’s West Coast. Lianne’s work in this capacity includes:

  • Leading multi-agency communications teams to manage public perception and dispel misconceptions during emergency response incidents and full-scale exercises
  • Providing just-in-time media training for government and private sector spokespersons to handle public affairs through news conferences, media availabilities, town halls and open houses
  • Developing turn-key strategic communications policies, plans, and materials for industry and government to support organizational preparedness and achieve urgent objectives at the outset of an incident
  • Mentoring information officers and delivering communications counsel to Unified Command during some of Western Canada’s largest, multi-agency training exercises
